The good parts of the 2000s were okay, culturally it was far different here in the USA, it's probably as big of a difference as 1950s was to 1970s.

In many ways it was better, some aspects of technology were better (decentralized websites, very little government/corporate control), some weren't.

People tried to act tougher/cooler back then, that's for sure. Myspace and smartphones drastically changed the culture of the entire country.

Before this, peer pressure, and even how people generally thought, was mainly dictated by the small number of people in your life immediately surrounding you. It's why you could have an active KKK chapter in your town, because you lived in a bubble. The entire country being molded by instant global communication really unified us on what is socially acceptable, and what isn't. It centralized peer pressure.

We're all on the same page now. Maybe the only ones who aren't are the Amish and Mennonites.

How old are you? 40? I'm a 22yo zoomer and high schoolers (all the boys at least) live lives of asexual homunculi. Every boy in my class graduated without so much as touching a girl. Add onto that the fact that since our senior year was during covid lockdowns, we had no prom, and you have a high school experience where you spent the rear half of it locked inside your bedroom in online classes and never got the chance to interact with your peers.
