A lot of people strongly disagree with that.

Having kids is almost free though. The cost of food is the only notable expense. Clothes are cheap. Breast milk is a free byproduct of the mother's diet. Re-usable cloth diapers exist.

Essentially the only real expense is women's standards. Women won't have kids with you unless you're a financially stable homeowner, something increasingly difficult. They won't have kids with a broke NEET living at his mom's house, although there is nothing stopping you from doing this.

TLDR 99% of the cost of childcare = meeting western women's standards in the first place
