Just finished Genesis. Here's my recap:
4004 BC creation, Adam and Eve, first sin and the fall, God curses the world.
Pre-flood world is very different, many dinosaurs, nephilim, etc.
2348 BC the global flood happens, destroys almost all life on Earth, many canyons and layers of Earth that took "millions of years" were formed rapidly in this catastrophic event, animals were rapidly buried and fossilized, marine animals are found on the peaks of mountains today even Mt.Everest (Genesis 7, flood covered all the mountain tops).
Flood ceases, only 8 people left on Earth, Noah, his 3 sons and their wives, the resulting humanity lives mostly together until 2242 BC where they built the Tower of Babel and God scatters them across the face of the Earth and gives them different languages (early 2000 BCs is where the first ancient civilizations begin with few disputed older dates)
One of them is Egypt (Mizraim, son of Ham)
1996 BC Abraham is born, has a soon Isaac, who has a son Jacob.
Jacob is later renamed to Israel ("fights with God") after wrestling with an angel in the desert.
Israel gives birth to 12 sons (spoiler: they become the patriarchs of the 12 tribes of Israel)
One of them is Joseph, who was hated by his brothers so they sold him to slave traders, who sold him to Egypt.
Joseph becomes second-in-command to Pharaoh after making accurate predictions.
There is a famine and Joseph's brothers come to Egypt to buy food, after some quarrels Joseph forgives them and his whole family moves to Egypt to live in the land of Goshen.
As time goes on, Israel dies, Joseph dies, the current Pharaoh dies, and what's left is a large number of descendants of Israel (Hebrews) left in Egypt. The new Pharaoh doesn't trust them so he enslaves them.
Thus starts Exodus.
