Imagine waking up in Ur. You head out to pasture your livestock. You don't need a car because they won't exist for another 4000 years. The land is clean and the sky is clear. You can hear harp playing nearby, traders heading to the bazaar pass you by, a maiden worships idols to your left. You eat your smoked and seasoned goat jerky and drink some wine. You head to a wedding ceremony in the town, there is a large bonfire and music, your 17 year old wife is wearing this and showing off her long legs and bare feet.

Imagine waking up in Japan. It's another grim overcast day, the sky a haze of exhaust and industrial pollutants. You head to your office where you make shuffle papers for a living, you're not quite sure what service you even provide. You could never afford a car so you walk to the subway to get crammed into an overloaded train carriage. The shops blare shibuya kei a relentless audible barrage, you walk by salarymen passed out on benches surrounded by cans of strong zero. You get bentoslop from a vending machine on your way to the Metro you dont have a wife to make you real food. Your office is windowless if it had a window it would just look out at another building, the lights of the city dont cease, you've never seen the stars. You chat with your coworkers about work and eat your slop at your desk. After 3 hours of unpaid overtime you stop at a izakaya on your way home and get some cheap noodles in broth, you doze off, the tiredness getting to you and lose yourself in thoughts illuminated only by a flickering fluorescent tubes.

Imagine waking up in Tokashiki. You arouse slowly, its mostly quiet save for some birds and the occasional small truck, its still early but the air is warm. You operate a diving vessel, the tourists dont start till later so you have plenty of time, things move slower on the island. You head to your local cafe and get some coffee and breakfast, eating on the porch enjoying the light sea breeze. You don't need a car so you walk, the streets are clean and the sky is clear. The shops are quiet, the deigo is in full bloom, an old couple pass you on the right and a young girl plays in the park to your left. You get some cigarettes from a vending machine on your way to the port. Your office is in view of the sea and stars light up the sky at night, you chat with your coworkers about island life and fishing at lunch. You stop at a izakaya on your way home in the late afternoon and get a fresh meal for a dime along with a couple jugs of ice cold orion beer, you doze off to the aroma and lose yourself in thoughts illuminated only by a lantern.

Imagine waking up in America. You head to your warehouse job where you place items in boxes for a living. You need a car because its impossible to walk anywhere, it took a large amount of debt to buy. The streets are cracked and covered in litter and the sky is thick haze of smog. The shops blare muzak or zoomer pop, mcdonalds wrappers float in the breeze, pig cars pass you on the right while a gang shooting occurs in the street to your left. You get overpriced donuts and a coffee milkshake from a starbucks on your way to the warehouse. Your station has no natural light and you can never tell what time of day it is, you chat with your coworkers about the latest prolefeed on netflix at lunch. You stop at a mcdonalds on your way home and get an overly processed meal for two and a half hours wages, you get home and chug cheap beer and corn spirit then pass out, illuminated only by your excessively sized television.
