It's just a different feel than being a noble in a palace or castle towards the end of the medieval period right before technology would have got a bit too modern. I'd rather live among people who think diseases are caused by miasma rather than bacteria and viruses, as just an example of the general level of naivety I'd prefer a society to be at. The collective conscious of modern humans has become homogenized a bit, it's a bit like everyone is on the same page and it dampens independent thought.
If you go to another country today you will find that people know what electricity is, and they wear familiar pieces of clothing like pants and shirts. You would not find a civilization that worships strange idols and practices human sacrifice.
What I mean is on a mental level the Earth's global populace is being trapped in the box and it's getting harder to think outside the box if you know what I mean.
