I'm on this discord server and there's this English speaking Japanese mod.
This is the first Japanese person I've ever really personally heard from and I got to say, he's incredibly rigid and uptight.
The misinterpretations of sarcasm/banter/joking as anger or malice really surprises me the most. Are Japanese people actually like this? Are the stereotypes of them being uptight autists really true?

Because it's not someone abusing mod powers it's just some Japanese cultural barrier and misunderstanding.
He speaks English really well, and this is just an example, but I think in Japan it's completely alien to "insult" or "disrespect" people as jokes, when it's common in white countries as what you might call "banter".
This is why anime character calling their friend "aho baka" is peak Japanese humor.
