I do sometimes find it surprising how few mass murder incidents there are. Consider: a couple of teens could kill only a bakers dozen (a trivial amount compared to how many people die each day), and over 20 years later they are still spoken of in fear and, among certain people, reverance. The standard norm spends his entire life trying to ``make something of himself'', yet it would be so trivial to make one's mark in history with just a bit of preparation.

It's because a mass shooting takes a lot of balls. For one you've probably got to be suicidal and by you reach that point you're not going to feel motivated to plan out an elaborate murdering spree, you just want to end it and be done with suffering.

People talk about Columbine a lot because it was the first real modern school shooting.

The only thing that takes balls in murdering random people is the punishment you will get after you die for doing it.

You do not want to be a mass shooter after you die and have to be judged.

You just have to be really especially zogged out to consider it past an intrusive thought. Crime as protest only gives people who hate you more social leverage against you. Everyone who's lucid realizes that before they get too deep. Other people who are desperate to get what they want realize it too and aren't afraid to use you. Don't get caught up.
