I used to use some visual mantras when I was running through pain. I exercised too much too quickly without letting my body adapt and just took painkillers to help me push harder. That didn't mask all the pain so I turned to mantras. One of them was to focus on the pain as if it was a small red flower bud. I would tend to the flower as I ran and imagine it blooming into wings behind me. Another was to picture the pain spot as a portal that I could pull myself through and transcend into a different world.
