Buddhism teaches us that there’s no concept of self. It’s an artificial construct of the thinking mind. The thinking mind is part of the mind that generates thoughts. It’s a part that’s responsible for continuous chatter in your brain.

Since we are the product of our thoughts, and those come and go, the idea of self is a response of the thinking mind to make us feel more permanent.
