I finally beat smb2j, and yeah I used a save state at the start of each level, so what I could've just done the infinite lives glitch I literally heard it was intended by Miyamoto for smb2j
This game really was too hard, especially world 7 and 8, almost like a kaizo hack. Even got to see Bowser's brother (blue)

Guess I'll just die here because I can't jump out.
I'm playing this game but using a map. You could play without a map, but you'd be drawing one yourself and shooting every wall checking for secrets. If I was back in the 80s and had nothing else to play, I'd probably enjoy that. A lot of 8bit games intended for you to draw your own map, I certainly know Megami Tensei does.
There's a lot of "how were you supposed to know?" stuff in this game, stuff that really gets you thinking y can't metroid crawl?

Metroid was okay, would've been great back in the day.
I think it's dated in the sense that no one wants to spend so much time "being lost" in it today. It can be beaten in one sitting casually with a map. Kraid's Lair best track.
